About

Here, you will find all you need to know (well, all that I'm willing to share) about Damon Gentry.

I was born and raised in (and near) Shreveport, LA.  I have 2 sisters, and one step-sister.  I was always a bit of a geek in school:  band, debate, computer team, etc.  However, I was also very social, and made friends easily, even with the non-geeks.

I joined the Air Force shortly after High School and spent 2 years in Merced, CA.  During that time, I applied for, and was accepted to the United States Air Force Academy.  I spent 2 years there as a cadet, working towards a Computer Science degree before I accepted an early out offer during the early months of the Clinton administration.  After leaving the Air Force, I moved to Tacoma, WA to chase down a girl I had just met a few months earlier.

While in Tacoma, I got my first job in Information Technology.  I was a Novell Netware administrator for a small insurance company.  In 1995, I married Heather and we moved to Nashville, TN for a better job opportunity.  There, I began working with PCs on a Windows NT network.  I also began dabbling in HTML and all that new 'web' stuff.  By 1997, I had earned the title of 'webmaster'.  It was then that I began working with ColdFusion, a web application server / scripting language that is still paying the bills to this day.

In 2000, shortly after the birth of our first child, Heather and I moved back to the Pacific Northwest.  We now have 3 children and have settled in quite happily in Beaverton, a suburb of Portland, OR.  We are both very active in our parish and the parochial school that our children attend.

I currently work at Oregon Health and Science University as the Senior Web Engineer.  Recently, I started running to lose weight.  I've caught the running bug and hope I can keep it for many years to come.
